News Literacy: The Keys to Combating Fake News

This comprehensive book is an excellent blueprint for designing standalone lessons or even an entire course on news and media literacy for all grade levels. Beginning with chapters on news literacy, disinformation, and students' media literacy, the authors provide 26 individual lessons for developing information literacy. The lessons are intended to foster greater skill in using both digital and print media at any point in a student's research development. Each lesson provides a rationale for the skill, templates or examples to use in developing/teaching the skill, and references. Additional lessons are provided which cover how to teach citations and create bibliographies, how to develop the lessons into an entire course, and supply rubrics to use for evaluating students. With the increased necessity for students to learn how to evaluate the news and information they access daily for both personal and school use, this is a well-written and timely resource that will be useful for both teachers and librarians.
