I had the distinct pleasure recently to sit down with social studies teacher Lara Fayek, a former colleague of mine, to talk about the importance of teaching students how to examine visual texts; from placing them in their context, to considering the impact they can have on their audience. Along the way, we recall a notably successful activity we collaborated on to help students analyze those visual texts: the Living Tableau. This activity helps students not only look at visual texts closely, but enables them to think about those texts' underlying intentions.
