Reasoning with Data

As Debbie Abilock points out in her Adding Friction column—"How can I teach students to think of numbers as evidence rather than answers?"—students often assume that the data they find represents an authoritative answer and, therefore, fail to seek and compare multiple sources. Use this rubric to guide peer feedback and help students understand how the selection and visualization of data are part of a reasoning process rather than just simple fact-finding.
