Review

This book is a funny, quirky, action-filled adventure story that is the second in an assumed-to-be series about Kid Normal and the Super Zeroes. Kid Normal is a superhero without special powers. But, as all come to realize, it's not special powers that make a person a hero. In this tale, the group is assigned to a special class in school, the Advanced Capability Development Center, where they will receive special training. That comes with lots of teasing from the other members of the group who do not like the Super Zeroes. Before much training can occur, Kid is summoned by Miss Flint of the Heroes Alliance. He reports to Shivering Sands where the worst rogue heroes are imprisoned. There he learns about the worst of the worst, Magpie, who asks to see him specifically as part of a plan to escape and take over. Kid's visit is the first step in the escape plan, and the rest happens quickly. With lots of luck, thinking, fighting, action, and working together, the Super Zeroes help to save both the day and many of the Heroes Alliance's older members. Readers will know at the end of the story that more is to come as all the prisoners, including Magpie, have escaped and fled the scene. This story will appeal to upper elementary age children who love crazy adventure stories with lots of humor. The authors often speak directly to the reader, adding another element of silliness and fun. This is a good choice to add to collections, especially where the first story is popular.
