Assessments: Praxis (#5311) Librarian Media Specialist; Score 153 or above

Other Testing Needed: Yes, Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) for anyone seeking an initial Standard License as a teacher (http://www.in.nesinc.com/Home.aspx). The state of Indiana recognizes a passing score on the Pearson test as acceptable proof to acquire the K-12 Teacher of Library Media Certification. Note: A new updated Praxis test (#5312) School Librarian and proposed cut score will replace the current Praxis exam starting September 1, 2023.

Description: Individuals seeking the secondary level, elementary or middle school endorsement in Library Information Specialist will be required to complete either a major in the content area or have 24 semester hours of content.

Evaluation Process for Licensure:

Testing for individuals who hold a valid and comparable certificate may be waived. The criteria for eligible individuals are:

  • Hold a valid out-of-state teaching license comparable to the Indiana standard teaching license
  • Have at least three years out-of-state teaching experience. The experience must be at the grade level, in the subject area of the Indiana license you want, and at a school accredited by a state government or a regional accrediting association.
