Description: Iowa has two types of certification for library media: K–8 elementary school teacher librarian and 5–12 secondary school teacher librarian. The Master's is needed to be certified K-12.
Evaluation Process for Licensure:
Testing for individuals who hold a valid and comparable certificate may be waived. The criteria for eligible individuals are:
Program requirements for Elementary school media specialist (K-6):
- Degree: Baccalaureate.
- Completion of an approved human relations program.
- Completion of the professional education core.
- Content. Completion of twenty-four semester hours in school media course work.
Program requirements for Secondary school media specialist (7-12):
- Degree: Baccalaureate.
- Completion of an approved human relations program.
- Completion of the professional education core.
- Content. Completion of twenty-four semester hours in school media course work.
