Certification Requirements
Teacher Licensure Needed: Yes – Primary through Grade 12
Master's Degree Needed: Yes
EST Praxis II Subject Assessments: Yes. School Media Librarian Test (#5311): score of 156 or above is needed. If a candidate has been teaching for two or more years, the Praxis II test is not needed.
Other Testing Needed: Yes, a passing score of 160 or above on one of the Praxis II – Principles of Learning and Teaching (K-6, 5-9, or 7-12)
Description: The Library Media Specialist certification is an all-grades (P-12) certificate.
Evaluation Process for Licensure:
The criteria for eligible individuals are:
- A teacher preparation program
- Internship
For applicants with a certificate and 2 years of experience as a Library Media Specialist, the Praxis and the Internship are waived.
Reciprocity: Kentucky is a participant in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) Interstate Agreement.
