Certification Requirements
Evaluation Process for Licensure: The candidate must have:
1.) Graduated from an approved preparation program in library media; or
2.) Completed 24 semester hours distributed in each of the following areas:
- Selection and utilization of library-media materials and equipment, including the various technologies of up-to-date libraries (computers, instructional software, and the Internet in the teaching/learning process);
- Production of media and instructional materials;
- Organization, administration, and evaluation of a library-media center, including ethical issues;
- Theory and management of reference and bibliography;
- Selection of print-media materials for children and adolescents;
- Organization and technical processing of materials; and
- The role of the library-media specialist as a resource person for students and professional staff in curriculum design and the integration of library-media services in instruction; and
3.) Participated in a clinical experience to give the applicant an opportunity to apply the skills, understandings, and competencies required for the endorsement. One year of successful, full-time experience as a school librarian in a public or accredited nonpublic school may be accepted to meet this requirement.
