Certification Requirements

Teacher Licensure Needed: Yes

Master's Degree Needed: No

Praxis II Library Media Content Test Needed: No

Other Testing Needed: The Teacher Standards and Practice Commission (TSPC) has initiated a redevelopment of the tests that are needed for educator endorsements. However, applicants are required to take a Civil Rights Exam. Oregon does not administer tests directly, but contracts the services.

Description: The licensure is for educational media.

Evaluation Process for Licensure:

Criteria for eligible individuals:

  • A 59 hour initial licensure path leads to certification as a school library media specialist, but not a classroom teacher.

  • Completion of a master's degree in educational media, with 29 hours in library science and 16 more in advanced educational media

  • Adding 29 hours at the master's level to an educational media program by an additional 29 hours at the master's level.

Reciprocity: Oregon follows the Interstate Agreement with the 50 states and the District of Columbia in the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education & Certification (NASDEC). However, one must meet the state's requirements for teaching licensure because it is not a law. Further information can be found at http://www.nasdtec.net/?InterstateAgreements.
