  • ABOUT THE SCHOOL LIBRARY CONNECTION ARCHIVE

    • What material is hosted in the School Library Connection Archive?

This archive contains articles and book reviews published in School Library Connection magazine (2015–2023) as well as the partial archives of its predecessor magazines, School Library Monthly and Library Media Connection. Additionally, the archive contains more than 100 prerecorded webinars and self-paced, video-based courses.

    • Is the content in the School Library Connection Archive still updated?

School Library Connection ceased publication in May 2023. We are no longer adding new content to the archive nor updating materials. Readers are therefore advised that materials in the archive may have become dated since the time of publication.

    • I am a former subscriber. What happened to “My Place”?

The “My Place” features formerly available to subscribers have been discontinued as a result of the archive’s transition to free access. These features included usage statistics tracking, product lists, and resource lists.

  • CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDITS

    • Can I receive continuing education credits for my time viewing SLC courses and webinars?

While SLC is not an accredited agency, you can document clock hours spent learning with us by earning certificates of completion. We recommend consulting with your supervisory organization about applying these to your professional development requirements,

How do I earn a certificate of completion through SLC?

You can earn a certificate of completion for watching recorded webinars and courses by passing a quiz. After watching recorded content, click on the PD Certificate Quiz link. This will pop up a quiz in a new window. Follow directions in the quiz to answer questions based on the workshop or webinar. If you score an 80% or higher, you will be able to print out a certificate of completion.

  • SEARCHING SLC

    • My search did not return any results. What can I do?

Make sure all words are spelled accurately.

If you are looking for an exact phrase, enclose the phrase in quotation marks. For example, a search for "collaboration with teachers in the classroom" will return all records with that exact phrase.

By default, the search returns records that contain all of the words in your search string. For example, a search for collaboration teacher classroom returns all records with the words collaboration, teacher, and classroom.

If you want to find all records that contain collaboration, teacher or classroom, you can use the "or" keyword: collaboration or teacher or classroom.

To exclude certain words, the "-" (minus) symbol can be used. For example, to find all records that have collaboration and teacher, but not classroom, try collaboration teacher -classroom.

The search automatically adds a wildcard to the end of each word. For example, a search for class will return all records with class, classroom, classify, etc. To turn this feature off, put quotes around each word: "class".

The search is not case- or accent-sensitive. For example, a search for resumé will return the same results as a search for resume.

To search within titles only, use the title meta word: title:media specialist. (Do not include a space between title: and media.

To search within credits only, use the credits meta word: credits:library of congress. (Do not include a space between credits: and library).

To search for words that appear close together in the result text (proximity search) use the "near" keyword: media near specialist.

    • How do I search for reviews?

You can search for reviews from the search box at the top of the screen or you can use the specialized search on the Reviews+ page. From the Reviews+ page, enter either title or author name in the search box for Student Resource Reviews (fiction and nonfiction for students) or Professional Resource Reviews (professional development titles and tools for librarians and other educators). Use the dropdown options to further refine your search or to search by broad categories.

    • Can I save my search results?

Yes. From a list of search results, select the entries you want and click “Save” at the top of the page. This will allow you to save items to Google Drive or Dropbox.

    • How should I cite information I obtain from SLC?

You will find the relevant MLA-style citation at the end of each entry. To view the same citation in APA or Chicago style, click on the link "View All Citation Styles" just below the MLA citation example.
