Strategies for Developing Data Literacy [21:57]

Video

I recently met with author, presenter, and former library director Susan Smith to discuss data literacy: why it matters, and how to nurture it. Among her many professional and library roles, Susan was part of the team who participated in a three-year project at the University of Michigan to develop data and statistical literacy skills in high school librarians so they can better support critical comprehension skills in their students. In this conversation, we discuss the pervasiveness of data in our students' lives and how to empower students to make meaning of data visualizations during the inquiry process.
