This past school year has been stressful for students and staff alike as we've adjusted to returning to full-time on-campus learning after over a year of online and hybrid learning with COVID-19. Anticipating the social and emotional needs of students, my campus' school psychologist Elana Hamovitch reached out to me with an idea to collaborate. What resulted was an endeavor: Mindful Moments.
Working with a larger team of collaborators—including school counselors, therapists, college nursing school interns, classroom teachers, and students—we produced and shared a series of short videos throughout the school year. These Mindful Moments videos were shared in our school's weekly video bulletin, via newsletters to families and staff, on social media, and more (https://sites.google.com/guhsd.net/mendingmattersresourcelibrary/mindful-moments).
In this video conversation, I sit down with Elana to reflect on our Mindful Moments project, and talk about the unique role school psychologists fill in schools. Whether this inspires you to collaborate directly with your school psychologist, or simply reach out to them to introduce yourself, I hope that you enjoy learning more about this valuable school role and continue seeking out new partnerships that contribute to the emotional health of all students.
